Well so much has happened lately I don’t know where to start. Of course I have to start with our Valentine’s Day Adventure.
David planed a great evening of romance- pizza for dinner, put the kids to bed, watch a movie, enjoy each other!
Of course that didn’t happen--------
It started on Wednesday night. Kate was running down the stairs, hands full, not using the hand rail, and took a little tumble. If you hear her tell it she was doing somersaults down. Naturally we though she had to have bruised something after that racket she made falling. We checked her out thoroughly, and found that she could still wiggle and move everything. She told us her right arm hurt and I thought she probably hit her ‘funny bone’ cuz that is what always happens to me.
Together David and I decided that since it was bed time we would wait and see how she was doing in the morning. Once I told her that if her arm still hurt in the morning we would take her to the doctor, Kate reassured me that everything was just fine and it “didn’t even hurt!” I thought that we were really lucky on this round.
However, I found out later on Thursday (after sending her to school) that it really did hurt and that she hadn’t been using her right arm all day. She told me it really only hurt a little and she didn’t want to miss her Valentine’s Day Party at school or Ballet. We noticed she had a small bruise around her elbow and I let her talk me into going to ballet. After ballet her teacher told me that she couldn’t get Kate to lift her arm above her head, instantly I knew we had to go to the doctor.
Still in ballet clothes I hauled both girls to the local Urgent Care (I don’t know why they call it this because it took longer that most ERs) and waited, and waited, and waited…..
Finally we got in for x-rays (two of each arm for comparisons) and then we waited again.

After almost 4 hours at Urgent care we finally got to speak to the Nurse Practitioner on duty. She told us that the look great (no damage thank goodness), but that there is a dark area around the elbow that is very concerning and could be blood that will take care of itself, or it could be a fracture. Just great! She splinted Kate’s arm for the weekend (she got to pick out a colorful sling) and referred us to an orthopedic specialist to determine the correct diagnostic.

Fast forward to Monday---- we meet with the orthopedic specialist today. Unfortunately he couldn’t tell the extent of the damage because of small size of her bones, and the swelling in her arm. He recommended that she continue keeping her arm immobilized for 2 weeks (luckily she can remove it for baths), and come in for more x-rays then. He told us he would suggest that even if there was only a strain to her elbow just to be on the safe side and make sure it heals properly. So here we are with another medical issue. And again on the RIGHT ARM!!! (just like Maddie)
I think my children plan these things.
